Dear friends, this week’s Café may well be the most terrifying Bible study you’ve ever attended! No, we’re not talking about hellfire and brimstone – we’re going to talk about mirrors. Each of you will have the opportunity to look into my 10x magnifying mirror, one of the cruelest inventions known to (wo)mankind. You will discover pores the size of the craters, wrinkles as deep as the Grand Canyon and hair in places you didn’t know it could grow. Soft lighting and sedatives will be available! Having learned about God’s Trinity – Father, Spirit and Son – we are now going to look into the mirror of His word to discover our trichotomy – heart, soul and strength – made “In His Image.”
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
There is no conflict in the Trinity like there is in my trichotomy. Remember the passage we used to begin this study:
It happens so regularly that it’s predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God’s commands, but it’s pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge. Romans 7:21-23 (MSG)
We’re going to identify the “parts of us that covertly rebel,” and learn how to bring each part of us into submission and alignment with God’s good, perfect and pleasing will. We’re going to find answers to the hard questions, “Why doesn’t God work? Why do I fail time and time again to do the right thing, say the right thing, feel the right thing?” We’re going to learn to identify the pieces and parts of us that are capable of both rebelling against God and grieving Him, and also how we can take delight in Him and please Him. Please take a minute to read the password-protected update on the family who needs meals. There is also another page on the website called “Times & Seasons” for you to explore under “Start Your Own Café.” I can’t wait to see you (magnified 10x!) Friday morning! Love, Amy

- Daniel 10:7-18 The word for “vision” in verses 7, 8 and 16 is the same word translated “mirror” elsewhere
Please ponder…
Can you think of a time you discovered lipstick on your teeth or food on your face? Have you ever looked at a picture of yourself and wondered what you were thinking when you wore that outfit? Tell us about a time when a little glance in the mirror would have saved you a lot of embarrassment. Have you ever discreetly told someone they (ahem) needed a tissue?
